In an apparent bid to preserve world peace though indiscriminate displays of superior firepower, NATO uses a series of caves in Norway to store tanks and other military equipment.

As „The Local“ reported (a Norwegian News Agency), Heather Conley, the director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies‘ Europe Program, said that given the tense current relationship between Nato and Russia, northern Europe is now being viewed as a “theatre of operations”:

„Now that we have a very new security context with Russia, it now makes sense to rethink what is needed,“ she said.

Russian aggression in the Nordics has been an ongoing concern for Norway and its neighbours in recent years.

In 2015, it was revealed that Russia rehearsed military takeovers of northern Norway, the Swedish island of Gotland and the Danish island of Bornholm.

A batch of over 20 Russian Armata tanks are currently undergoing producer trials and will be sent to the country’s armed forces this or next year. The advanced armor platform may have a variant armed with a 152mm cannon.

Armata is the newest armor product from Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), the leading Russian tank producer. It was first revealed to the public in May 2015, during the Victory Day parade in Moscow. UVZ has built a trial batch of Armata tanks, which are currently undergoing trials, the company’s deputy director Vyacheslav Khalitov told Russian News Service radio.

“This batch has more than 20 vehicles. The trial of the prototypes will help us eliminate possible drawbacks,” he said.“Then we will send them to the armed forces to see how they prove themselves in different climatic conditions. That will be in 2016-17.”

The Russian ceasefire monitoring center near Latakia says it is verifying reports of an attack on the Kurdish town Tell Abyad in northern Syria carried out by militants coming from Turkey.

The reports came overnight and claim that the forces coming from Turkey are using heavy artillery, according to Lt. Gen. Sergey Kuralenko, who heads the center for Syrian reconciliation.

“This information was verified though multiple channels, including representatives of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), [a rebel alliance that includes Kurds, Arabs and other ethnic groups and operates in the region],” he said.

Russia has requested clarification from the US-run counterpart of the center based in Amman, citing its influence on Turkey, a member of the US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State terrorist group, the general said.
